My car is a time machine!

My car Beowulf is awesome. He's my knight in shining armor, my protector....he also takes me on wild adventures.

On Friday night, he took me back to the year 1861. I got there around 9pm. It was dark, and all of the soldiers were in uniform walking around camp. I felt like I was walking through a movie, watching all the ghosts. My favorite part was the smell of cigars and wood fires and the sound of a banjo.

There's just something different about 1861. The men are gentlemen. My hand was not once shaken, but held gently with each introduction. Hats were tipped to me. Men told me they were "charmed" to meet me, and that it was "a pleasure." The women were feminine and delighted in it. I had doors opened for me all weekend.

Thankfully my camera survived the time machine trip and took pictures, Kate and Leopold style.

They had a swap meet on the jail grounds...while a hearing for robbery was taking place. You could hear the soldier yelling from his jail cell.

Some people had a lot to sell, and some had a little.

There were a lot of soldiers at this fort...why they chose to stay outside instead of in the barracks is a little beyond me. By the way there were HUGE tents that aren't even in this picture....I should have taken a picture of them. I want one.

The soldiers wake up really early in the morning and drill.

Even the young ones are out drilling....or at least they're there and awake.

Turns out my grandmother knew about Beowulf's super power all along. She even made us clothes so we would blend in!

I took this picture because I really liked the hat.

And finally, I had to be a little outlandish...hey, YOU try to sit up at the bar in a hoop skirt! That thing spreads EVERYWHERE. Do not, I repeat, do NOT enter a tight space with delicate trinkets on low shelves while wearing this skirt.

And now I'm back in the future...and looking forward to the next adventure. <3

Happy Easter!

Still list-building. I thought of a new one:

try haggis.

For those of you non-scottish people (i.e. everyone with a tan), haggis is probably the grossest "delicacy" of Scotland. It is basically a sausage made out of sheep innards.

Why do I want to do this you ask? The same reason I want to do everything else on this list:

Just to say I did.

Apparently haggis is usually consumed with "gravy". This gravy is a shot of whiskey. Apparently this stuff is so gross you need your throat to burn so you don't actually taste it. I don't understand why this is still considered a scottish delicacy.

But I will do it. And there will be pictures.
